- What do terms such as VMC, MVMC, LIMC etc used in aerodrome status means ?Click here to show the answerAnswer:
VMC (Visual Meteorological Conditions):
Meteorological conditions equal to or better than the minimum established to fly
according to the Visual Flight Rules (VFR). The minimum landing and take-off
meteorological condition of VFR flights is:
- Ceiling equal to or higher than 1,500 feet (450 meters); and
- Ground visibility equal to or higher than 5,000 meters.
An aerodrome is in VMC state when at least one of the thresholds is in VMC state.
Marginal VMC (Marginal Visual Meteorological Conditions):
Meteorological conditions below the minima established for VMC and the
meteorological conditions observed are equal to or higher the minima established for
MVMC:
- Ceiling equal to or higher than 1,000 feet (300 meters); and
- Ground visibility equal to or higher than 3,000 meters.
An aerodrome is in MVMC state when none of the thresholds is in VMC state and at least
one of the thresholds is in MVMC state.
IMC (Instrument Meteorological Conditions):
Meteorological conditions below the minimum values established to fly according to the
Visual Flight Rules. The minimum landing and take-off meteorological conditions of IFR
flights are:
- Ceiling lower than 1,000 feet (300 meters); and/or
- Ground visibility lower than 3,000 meters.
An aerodrome is in IMC state when none of the thresholds is in VMC or MVMC state and at least
one of the thresholds is in IMC state.
Low IMC (Low Instrument Meteorological Conditions):
When the minimum ceiling and visibility values supported by the aids associated to the
threshold are lower than the ceiling and visibility values in the respective threshold.
An aerodrome is in LIMC state when none of the thresholds is in VMC, MVMC or IMC state and
at least one of the thresholds is in LIMC state.
No Operations:
An aerodrome is in NOP state when all the thresholds are in NOP state.
No Information:
An aerodrome is in NIL state when the METAR/SPECI information is expired.
Unfavourable Wind Conditions:
A threshold is in this state when the wind parameters (direction/intensity) are
unfavourable for operation.
